FUND INFANT CPR
TRAINING ROOM
CPR saves lives. The earlier it is
initiated, the greater the chances
of survival. When an infant or small
child requires CPR, time is even more
crucial.
Special care and techniques
must also be followed to ensure
safe resuscitation. Studies show
that simulation training for health-
care providers improves response
to critical emergencies.
Thomas Hospital Foundation
recently granted funds for a dedicated
simulation training room for those
involved in treating infants and small
children. The training area is used
by staff members of the birth center,
pediatric and emergency departments.
“We are creating a designated area for staff to train
in obstetrical, pediatric and neonatal emergencies. This
allows us to remain current in recommended techniques
and continue to improve our communication skills
during emergencies,” says Thomas Hospital birth center
director Vicki Curtis.

DIGITAL RADIOLOGY
The North Baldwin Infirmary
Foundation is in the second stage
of a three-part campaign to raise
$300,000 for a digital radiology
room to be located in the hospital’s
emergency department. Patients are
currently transported through the
hospital to the radiology department
for X-rays. Having the services avail-
able within the emergency room will
shorten treatment times.
The campaign is expected to
take about three years to complete;
however, the Foundation has
purchased a digital processor already
being utilized. With this technology,
the emergency team is able to
process and view images in less than
one minute.
